Adrian Cunningham

Class of 1994

Adrian was drawn to the piano as a small child and became a proficient pianist before moving onto clarinet and saxophone in Senior School. His school jazz band Midnight in Harlem was a feature at many school concerts. Adrian’s love and proficiency in both Latin and Music presented him with a difficult career choice. Music was the victor.

Adrian’s passion and talent for Jazz saw him graduate with honours from the Sydney Conservatorium of Music in 1999. He took every opportunity to play with bands, in shows, on television and in recording studios before moving to New York City in 2007.

Adrian is now an internationally renowned jazz woodwind player, having worked in New York’s greatest Jazz Clubs, with a huge variety of bands and at festivals all over the world. He leads his own traditional New Orleans style
band called Professor Cunningham and His Old School and it has fast become one of the top bands in the international Swing scene.

“If you ever you embark upon a path outside of convention, you will be met by some form of resistance. Why do I do what I do? The answer is obvious - I love what I do and I believe if you love what you do and you work hard at it, you will be rewarded exponentially. Music has given me amazing and life changing gifts.”
