Head of Design and Innovation (TAS) | Full-time, Permanent | Term 1,2026
Hills Grammar is seeking an innovative and committed educational leader to join our Learning and Teaching team as Head of Design and Innovation (Technological and Applied Studies). This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced and passionate educator to lead a dynamic team in shaping future-focused learning experiences that inspire creativity, problem-solving and technological literacy across Stages 4–6.
As Head of Design and Innovation, you will lead the Technological and Applied Studies (TAS) faculty with vision, clarity and purpose, ensuring high-quality teaching and learning aligned with NESA requirements and the values of Hills Grammar. You will foster a culture of innovation and collaboration, support staff development, and contribute to whole-school initiatives. The faculty offers a wide range of courses including Design and Technology, Technology Mandatory, Enterprise Computing, Food Technology, and Computing Technology.
About the Role
Leadership and Management

Lead and coordinate all aspects of teaching and learning across TAS subjects, including curriculum design, program implementation, and innovation in pedagogy.

Provide strong instructional leadership by modelling best practice in teaching, differentiation, assessment, and inclusive education.

Oversee curriculum planning and delivery across Stage 4, 5 and 6 TAS courses, ensuring compliance with NESA requirements.

Foster a collaborative team culture that promotes trust, professional growth, and shared accountability.

Drive innovation in STEM and design thinking across the school, promoting inter-disciplinary opportunities and real-world learning.

Use data to inform decisions, track student progress, and support improved learning outcomes.
Curriculum and Teaching

Ensure the delivery of high-quality educational programs across the faculty.

Promote and co-design and co-deliver interdisciplinary units of work with other Hills Grammar faculty.

Support implementation of key school strategies including personalised learning, formative assessment, and student wellbeing

Ensure up-to-date curriculum documentation, assessment schedules, and program review in line with NESA standards and school policy.
Staff Development

Lead and mentor a team of TAS educators, supporting their professional growth through coaching, feedback and engagement in the School’s Professional Learning Framework.

Engage actively in the Hills Grammar Professional Growth Cycle, promoting reflective practice and continual development.

Support the induction and ongoing support of new staff within the faculty.
Operational
-
Manage faculty budgets, ensuring effective acquisition and use of resources and materials for practical classes.

Maintain accurate asset registers and oversee WHS procedures in TAS learning environments.

Oversee student placement and engagement in TAS courses, working closely with the Wellbeing and other teams.
Essential:

Relevant teaching qualifications and accreditation with NESA.

Proven experience teaching Stage 6 Design and Technology and other TAS subjects.

Demonstrated leadership experience in a school setting.

Strong understanding of NESA curriculum and compliance requirements.

Teacher Cadetship Program | Our Priorities for 2026
During 2026, our Teacher Cadetship Focus will be on 4th Year / Final Year tertiary students in Senior School Mathematics, English, Design and Technology (Computing major), Science (Chemistry major) and Economics.
The Teacher Cadetship Program offers aspiring educators a structured and supportive pathway into the teaching profession. This developmental role is designed to build foundational teaching skills through immersive, hands-on experience within a dynamic school environment. Under the mentorship of experienced educators, the Teacher Cadet will actively contribute to the learning community while progressing toward formal teacher accreditation.
This role is ideal for individuals committed to professional growth, reflective practice, and a long-term career in education.
Key Responsibilities
Under the supervision and guidance of a designated Mentor Teacher, the Teacher Cadet will:
- Work with small student groups to provide tailored academic support, fostering active participation and learning growth.
- Take part in classroom activities, attend staff meetings.
- Observe diverse instructional approaches across various subjects and grade levels to build a comprehensive understanding of effective teaching methods.
- Collaborate in planning and delivering lessons, offering input and applying newly acquired teaching strategies to enhance learning outcomes.
- Help carry out both ongoing and final assessments, contributing to the tracking and analysis of student performance and development.
- Assist with administrative tasks / collating resources and record keeping as required.
Professional Development
- Engage in regular feedback sessions with the Mentor Teacher.
