Learning Language Through Using Language
At Hills International Education we ensure that students thrive and flourish in a language abundant environment through engaging in rich tasks within a connected and contextualised English curriculum.
In Term 2 students have been learning about technology and its effects on our lives. For one of our activities, HIE students were able to manipulate and use various kitchen appliances to prepare a meal for teachers and students for our Wednesday ‘Lunch Drop In’ session.
English language skills in action were observed as students read recipes, rehearsed and negotiated oral language to communicate, and used content-specific vocabulary to collaboratively work together.
The highlight was sharing the meal with teachers and peers across Hills Grammar who stopped by for our ‘Lunch Drop In’ where conversation was central, and a great time was had by all.
