On Monday, the Junior School staff participated in a professional development session on Mindfulness.
Mindfulness is ‘paying attention, on purpose, in the present moment’. It is about focusing attention on the present rather than worrying about the past or the future.
There are numerous benefits for people of all ages to practice mindfulness and it can support a person’s wellbeing and mental health.
- Reduce stress
- Increase resilience
- Increase positive emotions
- Boost self-esteem
- Improve attention and focus
- Assist managing anxiety and depression
All it takes is a few minutes a day. There are many apps and guided meditation clips on You Tube. A very useful place to start is to download the Smiling Minds App which has short meditation sessions for all ages.
