Life is not a destination but rather a journey… (unknown)

This term the Careers and Tertiary Awareness Department will focus on developing an increased awareness of the underlying premise of career development. An individual’s career goal, like life is not a destination to be reached but rather a journey to behold. An individual’s career may undergo twists and turns, highs and lows to eventually end up where they least expected but still extremely satisfied. Career development is about preparing the individual for both the expected and unexpected.

During the half yearly examinations, all Year 10 will participate in the Morrisby Online Career Assessment. The Online Morrisby Report is a comprehensive and well-regarded product. We believe the profile report offers excellent diagnostic information that assists with decision making around subject selection, tertiary courses and career choice. Its particular value is the focus on aptitudes and the direction of student’s strengths as well as their career interests.

Following the testing, a 20 page personal report is produced and will be distributed to students. After the assessment, students will meet in a group with Ms Mahoney, Careers and Tertiary Awareness Co-ordinator. This opportunity will allow the students to understand more about his/her report and reflect upon any implications for his/her decision making. A personal website login is also provided to enable students to further research the career suggestions made in their report.

It is anticipated, that the students will use the information contained in these report to help them make informed decisions when they come to select their subjects for Years 11 & 12.

In Term 3 the School will once again be hosting the Tertiary Awareness Market where we will have over 40 different tertiary institutions representatives on hand to answer students enquires. is a website that the school subscribes to. It provides a wide range of information about tertiary study, job hunting etc; for both the student and parent. You can register for email alerts or just visit the site on a regular basisl. To view the news pages on the website: log in: “Hills” and the password is “grammar”. You can then view full details of the latest news in respect to careers and see upcoming events.

Work experience in 2017- The Work Experience Program involves a short period (up to 1 week) of unpaid work during which time the student will carry out duties similar to those assigned to new employees and or they may observe the activities and responsibilities of a position they may be interested in when leaving school.

Students in Year 10 -12 can participate in a Work Experience Program. Students interested in doing a Work Experience Program should consult with Ms Mahoney, who will then advise the student on an appropriate date.

Ms Mahoney does have an employer who is willing to take students who are interested in a career in Childcare or Business administration  for Work Experience. If your child is interested in either of these careers please contact Ms Mahoney for more information.
