Gillian joined the School Council in March and along with Gary Honan is one of our newest Councillors. She was previously an Economics/Business Studies teacher at Hills Grammar and is now a Vice President at Dimensional Fund Advisors. Gillian’s bio is on the School’s website. I asked Gillian a few questions, the answers to which I think you’ll find interesting:
Q. It's been a few years since you were with the students of Hills Grammar. How has it changed?
The most obvious change has been the wonderful additions to the campus environment. The expanded ECEC, the Sports Pavilion, basketball courts and the RJ Phipps Performance Centre all being new additions to the campus since I was at the school.
I recall doing many playground duties on the sports oval next to the Pavilion when it was just a field of undeveloped land, so it is wonderful to see the substantial progress that has been made.
Since becoming involved with the school again through School Council I think it is also important to recognise what hasn't changed; the passion and commitment of the staff and the extraordinary sense of school community that still exists at Hills Grammar.
Q. What motivated you to be part of the School Council?
I am excited and honoured to have the opportunity to join Council. My time as a teacher at Hills Grammar was the most rewarding and enjoyable experience of my professional career.
When I decided to pursue a different career path I always knew that I wanted to become involved with the school again one day, so when the position of Councillor was advertised I saw it as a wonderful opportunity to rejoin the school community.
I have always been extremely passionate about education and being a member of Council allows me to make a meaningful contribution to student success at the school.
Q. What are you focused on achieving as one of the school’s trustees?
It’s Council’s role to provide strategic direction to ensure the future success of the School and its students. As a Councillor and trustee my focus is to make sure we do what’s necessary to continue to deliver our Vision of providing students with an extraordinary education.
This means focusing on the needs of students to ensure that we create a strategy that delivers the highest standards in education and a learning environment so students today and in the future continue to have a successful educational experience.
Using my experience both within the school environment and the corporate world, I aim to make a real and meaningful contribution to ensure the Hills Grammar is well positioned today and in the future.
Please join Council in welcoming Gillian back to Hills Grammar.
As always, I welcome your feedback and questions and you can get in touch with me here.
