This term Year 10 PDHPE students are running the Students As Life Style Activists program for Year 7 pupils. The SALSA program is a joint initiative by Sydney University and Western District Local Health Authority that runs in a number of schools in Western Sydney.
32 Year 10 students signed up to be part of the program and spent a day in a workshop with Sydney University Students learning how to the deliver the program which consists of 4 lessons based around nutrition, physical activity, healthy lifestyles and goal setting.
The Year 10 Peer Leaders are now delivering these lessons to Year 7 students during Positive Education time, and both groups are enjoying the experience. Evidence suggests that peer to peer teaching programs such as SALSA have significant and long lasting impacts on both groups of students and are an important part of a robust, holistic curriculum.
